Practice: Business, Trusts and Estates.
Experience: Al Falk's practice focuses on estate planning and trust and estate administration. He also advises owners of closely-held businesses. For example, he
helps
people plan the disposition of their estates, anticipates incapacity
and end-of-life issues, protect their assets (for them and their
heirs), reduce the gift tax, estate tax, and generation-slipping
transfer tax burdens.

extensive experience with family partnerships, retirement account
beneficiary designations, life insurance planning using trusts and
funding arrangements, lifetime giving programs using direct gifts
and trusts, charitable giving (including the use of private
foundations), and advising personal representatives (executors),
trustees and beneficiaries about their rights and responsibilities.

business owners arrange for the succession of the management and
ownership of family-owned businesses, purchase and sell businesses,
and put together shareholder, partnership, and LLC agreements that
spell out in advance what happens if one of the owners should die
or want to get out of the business.
Education: Al received a BA degree in Economics from the University of Washington and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He later earned a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from the University of Florida's College of Law.
Affiliations, Publications and Honors: Al is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and is a member of the College's State Laws Committee. He is a past Chair of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the Washington State Bar Association. He is a past president of the Tacoma Estate Planning Council and is a past chair of the WSBA Business Law Section. Al has spoken at numerous professional seminars and written several articles, including one that was published several years ago in Probate & Property, a publication of the American Bar Association's Real Property, Probate and Trust Section. He is a member of the Editorial Board for the WSBA Probate Deskbook. Al has been designated a "Super Lawyer" by Washington Law & Politics for the last few years, and has been selected to be included in recent editions of "The Best Lawyers in America."
